How We Help

You have come to the right place for all things Kidney.

You would be surprised what the kidneys are able to do and what they control.  We specialize in chronic kidney disease, dialysis care, high blood pressure, fluctuations in potassium and sodium, proteinuria and post kidney transplant management.
Dialysis Care
You may ask what Hypertension has to do with kidneys. Hypertension, or High Blood Pressure is actually a cause of chronic kidney disease and vice versa. Leaving a diagnosed High Blood Pressure untreated could lead to heart attacks, strokes and kidney failure. Fortunately controlling Hypertension can easily be accomplished by losing excess weight, exercising more, not smoking and cutting down on salt.

Hyponatremia. Hyponatremia is an abnormally low level of sodium in the blood. Sodium helps to balance electrolytes. This often can indicate and underlying medical condition or be a result of drinking too much fluid.
Kidney Disease. At Jacksonville Nephrology we specialize in kidney disease and hypertension. According to the National Kidney Foundation, 26 million Americans have Chronic Kidney Disease and millions of others are at an increased risk. Therefore you may already know someone affected by this disease. If left untreated Chronic Kidney Disease can progress to kidney failure with need for Dialysis or Kidney Transplant. As with most conditions if detected early, kidney disease can be managed appropriately to limit the risk of leading to more complicated conditions.
When levels of potassium are too high in the body it is called Hyperkalemia. Kidney disease is the most common cause of Hyperkalemia. When the kidneys are damaged or not working properly they have a hard time removing potassium from the body. Too much potassium in the body can lead to irregular heart beat or heart attack.
Proteinuria is when protein appears in the urine. Kidneys function to keep protein in the body. When protein appears in the urine it can indicate that the filters in the kidneys are damaged by disease. This is tested by a urine study.
After Transplant Management. After a transplant it is necessary to remain on immunosuppressant medicine in order to prevent rejection. This will require you to follow up with a Nephrologist.
